OVERVIEW

SensiGene® RHD

Accurately assess Rhesus D (RHD) status.

Knowledge is empowering.

The SensiGene® Fetal RHD Genotyping laboratory-developed test will help your health care provider determine if there is an increased risk of Rh blood type incompatibility between you and your baby and, if necessary, treat your baby for Rh disease.

What is RHD incompatibility?

+

RHD incompatibility in pregnancy occurs when the mother is negative for the Rhesus D factor and the baby is positive. If the baby’s blood cells enter the mother’s bloodstream, the mother will produce antibodies that destroy and eliminate the baby’s red blood cells, which may lead to RHD disease such as jaundice, anemia, brain damage, heart failure, or even stillborn delivery. Invasive tests, such as an amniocentesis, or a prior miscarriage may also cause this to occur.

Knowing if you are RHD negative is very important. About 85% of Caucasians are RHD positive, while 92-98% of African American and Hispanic populations and 98-99% of Asian and native American populations are RHD positive. If your test reveals that you are RHD negative, you may be at risk for RHD incompatibilities.

SensiGene® RHD is a noninvasive genotyping laboratory-developed test that will determine the RHD status of your baby through a blood sample.

If you are RHD negative and you are carrying a baby who is RHD positive, your doctor may give you Rh immune globulin injections to help prevent development of the damaging RHD antibodies. If it is determined that you already have RHD antibodies, you doctor will closely monitor your baby’s health and may recommend further tests.

While the results of the SensiGene® Fetal RHD Genotyping test are highly accurate, discordant results may occur. A negative test result does not ensure RHD compatibility. A patient with a positive test result should be referred for further evaluation. The results of this testing, including the benefits and limitations, should be discussed with a qualified health care provider. Pregnancy management decisions should not be based on the results of this test alone.
