  1. Docherty SJ et al. March 2009: Bisulfite-based epityping on pooled genomic DNA provides an accurate estimate of average group DNA methylation

Summary: Validates using pooled DNA samples to accurately assess group DNA methylation averages. Can be readily applied to the assessment of disease phenotypes reducing the time, cost and amount of DNA starting material required for large-scale epigenetic analyses.

    Paper (PDF)

  2. Vanaja DK et al. February 2009: Hypermethylation of Genes for Diagnosis and Risk Stratification of Prostate Cancer

Summary: CpG unit methylation detection in more than 500 bases at a detection limit of approximately 5% methylated DNA. This is a rapid and cost-effective quantitative analysis of methylation at individual CpG sites (238 CpG sites were analysed in 96 samples).

      PubMed Abstract
  3. Hackanson B et al. May 2009: Epigenetic Modification of CCAAT/Enhancer Binding Protein A Expression in Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Summary: Support for personalized medicine as their data suggests that examining the aberrant epigenetic profile in patients before treatment might prove to be an important predictor for effectiveness of epigenetic therapy.

    Paper (PDF)

  4. Yamada N et al. January 2009: Promoter CpG methylation in cancer cells contributes to the regulation of MUC4

Summary: The authors describe Sequenom technology as proven to be a powerful DNA methylation analysis tool permitting high-throughput identification of methylation sites and semiquantitative measurement at single or multiple CpG sites.

    Paper (PDF)

  5. Kim JB et al. February 2009: Oct4-induced pluripotency in adult neural stem cells.

Summary: EpiTYPER was used in this study which shows that the transcription factor Oct-4, when expressed exogenously, reprograms adult neural stem cells into pluripotent stem cells.
